OP-ED: Veteran Advocates for Choice Act to Protest Access to Benefits Help

Retired U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Travis Mills, a quadruple amputee injured in Afghanistan, urges Congress to pass the CHOICE Act (H.R. 3132), which would safeguard veterans’ access to expert help when filing disability claims. In a personal op-ed, Mills highlights how private consultants have stepped in to bridge gaps in the VA system and emphasizes the need for veterans to choose their support without fear of scams or red tape.

The legislation introduces oversight and accountability while preserving critical access to professional claim assistance. “Veterans deserve a system that works for them — not against them,” Mills writes.
